56 Ohm headphones

Go to solution Solved by tobben,

So, how does it work? Will it be significantly quieter than 32 Ohm headphones?

i cannot guarantee you anything but i really don't see you having any problems at all with 56 ohm headphones as that is still very low resistance, my guess is that it will be half decent at 80 ohm, but should be ok at 56, you shouldn't aim at 250 ohm headphones without an amp though.

Doesn't the DX have a headphone amp built in? my dgx does....

The perceived volume will be determined by BOTH the sensitivity and the impedance.  56 Ohms can easily be driven by a onboard chip as long as the sensitivity is above 100 SPL (dB/mW).  Keep in mind that impedance VARIES with frequency, which can make certain headphones like the AKG K240s take a deceptive amount of power since, while they are 55 Ohms nominal impedance, over their spectrum they deviate all the way up to 150 Ohms.

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."
