8GB RAM vs 16GB RAM for gaming

Do you monitor your ram usage? Run with MSI, and set it to show pagefile usage as well. I think you might be surprised.

Seriously? Lol. Don't you have to set minecraft up to use more than 2Gb?

Well, Space Engineers is kind of a broken indie game that renders entire 120km wide planets at once, but...

The point still stands. I'm not really sure though, honestly.

4gb, ram leeks are a thing

with ftb

very frequently.

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

8GB is generally for now 16 will be fine for the near future, but there is no downside to to much in this case,

Is it really that bad, I heard it was a hungry POS, but that is really bad.

I have no issues playing BO3 with only 8gb (excluding the first week where I'd crash after like 30 minutes).

I just turned the game on to check RAM usage, it takes around 9 GB + Firefox open ON THE FUCKING MENU, along with almost 2100MB of VRAM xD

You literally launch a game, and it takes 9GB immediately on the menu screen, on certain maps it surpasses 12GB...

Remember though, just like with VRAM on GPU's the more you have generally the more programs will try to use. If you have 16GB, they will offload more to ram than if you have 8GB.

Which is not to say that there is no reason for doing that process... Thus for all but the most budget builds I'd recommend spending the extra 25-35 dollars and getting 16GB of ram.

No point getting less then 16GB, not with todays prices.

Games might not need them atm, but with console refreshes and DirectX 12, so might that change quickly.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

I 100% agree.

There is zero reason, if you are building a new system, to not get a 16GB kit.

I personally am running 12GB in my frankenstein machine and when I eventually upgrade to a brand new build, I won't be looking at anything less than 16GB. I may even go higher.
