So the two monitors that I'm currently considering are within $20 of each other. They are the Dell U2415 and the ASUS MG248Q.

The Dell is a 16:10 AH-IPS that is pretty much the cream of the crop for 24" IPS - from what online users have told me.

The ASUS is just your standard 144Hz 1080p monitor but with FreeSync.

I already have the LG 24GM77 which is a 144Hz 1080p monitor, and I'm not sure which one would be the better addition for me. Adaptive sync tech or a fantastic IPS panel? I game, edit videos, and stream on Twitch, as well as the movie and TV show watching. I'm leaning towards the Dell because all I hear are good things about IPS and my current monitor weighs out the negatives, but I also hear people talking about how "life-changing" adaptive sync was for them. This monitor would be an addition to my current setup. I think I would like the Dell for most games and leave CS:GO and other reaction-sensitive games to my LG. Really just looking for thoughts and opinions. I don't think I could go wrong either way but a second opinion wouldn't hurt.

Thanks,

PacificNic

there's just one isssue with adaptive sync i want to mention: it is a nightmare for streaming, because it will more than likely look buttery smooth to you, but tearfest for your viewers.

aside from that, you're choosing between amazing colors, and buttery smooth gaming.

i generally recommend 60Hz monitors for livestreaming, mostly because you'll need to produce a 60Hz signal for your livestream either way, and especially when going for oddities like 144Hz, or even stuff like adaptivesync, you're basicly asking for problems.

It's funny you should mention that because I noticed that when streaming Overwatch and playing at 144Hz, it was only outputting frames to OBS in the 20s, but with CS:GO, I have absolutely 0 issues using 144Hz. This seems very strange to me, but in all likelihood, the LG would remain my main monitor and the ASUS or Dell (leaning Dell) would be my secondary.

I don't know how one TN and one IPS next to each other would work, it might be more straining on your eyes to adjust. But the IPS might be better for the editing part, especially if you already have a 144Hz display for gaming.

That's possible, but I can't comment onto whether that would actually be the case or not. Judging by the number of people I see with TNs and IPS monitors, I don't *think* it would be an issue

there's a whole range of variables that decide if it screws up or not. as an example, sevadus has a 144Hz monitor for livestreaming, but he puts it to 120Hz, with his capture card capturing every other frame for a 60FPS livestream. it's what he decided works best for him, and seeing sevadus is a robot that minmaxes chickens in farming simulator i guess there must be something about this setup that makes it far superior :P

What I've had in mind is there's time to adjust. I was using macbook + TN display and the color reproduction difference was just insane.

i have the most horrendous display setup right now, with my old fairly decent panel to the left, a dell ultrasharp in the middle, and a panel that doesnt understand the difference between purple and blue to the right.

it's not a problem eyestrain wise, brightness differences are a massive problem tho, so make sure to adjust that accordingly :P
