A few weeks ago I bought the r9 390. When I took a look on the box I saw that I should have a minimum psu of 750w (with a power usage of about 275w). Since I have a 650w psu I sent it back.

My question about the rx 480 is: What is the recommended amount of watts for the psu?

Atm I have a 650w (bronze certified) psu, and I am thinking of buying an rx 480, and get another 1 later.

Do you think my power supply is good enough to handle two rx 480's?

Thanks

The recommended watts are way too high if you have a good power supply that can actually deliver it#s full load.

Either way 650W is fine for a RX480 Crossfire.

Either way 650W is more than fine for a RX480. A 450W PSU would be just fine as well.

But do you think my psu can handle 2 rx 480's?

I edited my post. Didn't see you meant 2 Rx 480s.

Yes a 650W is fine if it's a good quality PSU.

What's your PSU?

The CX650 (grey label) is a member of the 4th CX edition so it should be fine.

Also - the 390(X) can easily run on a 450W PSU assuming it's good. The card itself draws 270W. The draw of the RX 480 is about 160W so you can run 2 of them easily and still have 150W left over.

I don't know what are they thinking when they add in specs 750W PSU requirement.

I was running my PC with R9 390 overclocked to max stress. CPU on 100% load and GPU on 100% load.

Monitors + speakers + other devices pluged into the wall.

Combined wattage from the wall was always under 300W.

So R9 390 would work without any problem on decent 500W PSU.

Sure it's good to have some headroom, and not using 300W PSU, because it would be pushing it to the limit all the time.

But 650W PSU will be just fine for RX 480. Even for 2 of them.

However, CX from corsair isn't best quality. For single RX 480 should be no problem, but I wouldn't pair that PSU with top tier GPUs like GTX 1080.
