USB connection

Hi I recently got a Nexus 5x after coming from apple it's a huge difference I have a Sandisk duel drive (I thinks that's what it's called) and I picked up a USB c to micro b so I could connect it and share films without having to put them on my phone I have tried most things but I do not want to root. Any tips on what I could do

I was under the impression that Stock Android does not support external storage. Which is why I dont buy Google Branded devices because they all run stock Android. I may be wrong but I think that right. 

 

Another thing to try to see if it shows up in a file manager. My LG phone came with one, im not sure what stock android has, maybe you can access your external storage from their. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
