Fixing kink in coiled monitor wire

Hey there, I've gotten a kink in the coiled (telephone-style) wire of my beloved Sony MCR-7506. The kink is very high up the wire, close to the cans themselves. I've tried to untangle it a dozen times but only make it worse and then have to work to get it back to the original problem. I've attached some pictures. Anybody got a technique? Thanks.

Most springs are formed by pulling the material and rotating them in one direction. Once done, they are rotated in the opposite direction to set the coil "into memory".
