DxDiag - http://pastebin.com/pP8SLYLb

Got my gtx 1080 today, was playing a game (fine for about and hour) suddenly screen froze, horizontal lines showed up all over the screen and the pc restarted. On start up the same lines were apparent and the resolution had defaulted to 800 x 600... I tried to change this back to 1920 x 1080 to no avail as windows was not able to change the resolution. Attempting to open NVidia control panel results in nothing happening and attempting to open it from desktop via right click results in no menu and a infinite loading circle, also the inability to use anything on the desktop page such as apps.

Friend helped me through a few diagnostics. Checked device manager 1080 is listed however under driver properties it shows an error code (43) its not working. Here are the steps we have tried;

- Clean driver install from safe mode including no extra software such as Geforce experience. Tried for multiple drivers.

- Fresh windows install

- Reseating GPU

It appears as if the NVidia driver is crashing on start up as NVidia GeForce experience is constantly trying to download a new driver presumably because it cant see an active one.

If anyone could help me solve this issue it would be greatly appreciated, if there is anymore information needed please let me know.

The graphics card is a GTX 1080 Gigabyte G1, Have switched back to my old GPU for now which is working with no problems.

Many thanks in advance

I advice going back one driver. I did that for my 1070 because it kept giving horrible artifacts on the screen.

GIGABYTE Z97MX-G516GB DDR3 | I5 4690k @ 4.4ghz | 1TB SSHD, 500GB HDD, 128GB SSD | GTX 1070 8GB | Corsair Graphite 230 | EVGA 650W | Hyper 212 EVO

Cinebench R15: 636(all cores), 127FPS

Talk numbers please, which driver are you on. I got a 1080 and I haven't had one crash so far. Might depend on which game you play ...

As my friend said the drivers we tried were 368.81, 368.69, 368.25. All drivers presenting same issue. I had no issues while playing Rainbow six seige and witcher 3. The mouse in menu's was a bit laggy on GTAV but the game run perfectly fine. The one and only crash was about 3minutes into walking around on rust but after this crash i cant do much since i cant change my resolution to 1920 x 1080 nor can i access the nvidia control panel. Nvidia works fine if i have my older card in and i have no issues with it.

I was only on each game for around 5minutes at ultra settings. GTAV was more around the 10-15mins mark
