$800-$1000 Gaming PC

Comes to almost exactly 1000 bucks. This computer will smoke anything you throw at it for 1080p or 1440p gaming. If you wish to save additional cash, and are only gaming at 1080p, get the 6500 CPU instead of a 6600, get an RX 480 or 1060 (when it comes out) instead of the 1070. You could get a cheaper motherboard if you decide you don't care for features like USB 3.1 or type C. You could also get a different case if you want it, I just figured its a reasonably priced case for its features and looks somewhat nice.

I am looking to buy parts for a friend to build his gaming pc with. He lives by a microcenter, budget is between $800 and $1000. He lives on the east coast of the U.S. as well and will be using the pc for mainly gaming. No peripherals or os is needed.

If I had that budget, here's where I'd go - http://pcpartpicker.com/user/forthe48/saved/JzY6Mp

The build comes up to $700, with no GPU included. That would leave you $300 to find a nice used 980 or even 980Ti maybe? If you're not interested in/worried about overclocking, then what @Zyndo put together would be way better.

Don't get that psu for a $1000 build, the quality isn't that great. I'd get the evga supernova non-NEX or any seasonic/XFX non-XT instead. Also, the i5 will bottleneck the gtx 1070.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W
