Hi there, not wanting to necro a thread a month or two old, this thread. The users intention was to reallocate resources with ideally not rebooting but was advised against doing so.

I'm about to pursue an SLI build so that my SO can join me occassionaly, and I wouldn't mind having to shutdown the VM as it doesn't happen often. Ideally, the aim would enable me/us to switch between access to all cores and GPUs and splitting the resources when needed. All this while still being on the same Windows Installation/User profile. Would this be possible at all?

You can shut down vm's and then change how resources are allocated.

SLI probably won't work in a vm.

You can give all cores to all vms so that every vm can use all the power when needed.

would they not compete for resources then? I is likely better to assign a number of cores to each VM then to let them eat away.

Cpu's aren't like gpus in vms. It won't use the cpu power unless the vm needs the cpu power.

No reason no to give all the cores to all the vms.

That's great to hear about the cores, with regards to SLI/CF though; when you say probably not, why is that?

SLI needs motherboard support and probably won't work. Crossfire might work.

If you want a friend to join you every once in a while get anouther cheap gaming pc(about 200 or less). Or use hyper v in windows 8/10 and remote fx on the gpu.

Remote fx looks interesting, I've skimmed through a few of the search results but I'll give that a read later in the day, cheers for the help. Two questions, can I run a remotefx setup with only one GPU? Any downsides/limitations to going down the hyperv + remote fx route?

Yep you can.

Limited performance and vram, but more than good enough for the occasional friend.
