overclocking the e8400

so i have an oem desktop(hp compaq dc7900 cmt) with an intel e8400 with the stock cooler running at 3.00 ghz and i want to overclock it, can anyone pls help me

And why do you want to overclock it?

becuz i have no gpu atm and ive read that it can go upto 4.00ghz

Unless you bsel mod it, you cannot overclock it on a prebuilt computer, and 4GHz on lga 775 is usually with liquid cooling.

It would probabbly be better to just get something like a q6600 (if your motherboard is compatible) you can find them used for like $15USD.

Overclocking requires better cooling than a stock cooler, so thats the first thing you need to get. But that cpu is so bad, that you should rather upgrade the cpu. In csgo, the more fps you get, the better. With that cpu, you will not get a good gaming experience in anything.

i got my e6500 from 2.9GHz to 3.4GHz with stock cooler and without changing voltage (it is on auto mode). Was also on 3.5 but temps were little bit high. Also if you think you will get higher fps in CSGO i will tell you that you won't. Only a little bit stable fps,nothing more.
