Hi there,

I've had an Acer Aspire TC-220 desktop pc for almost a year now (Item Description) and I'm getting to a point where the Radeon R5 235 isn't a good enough Graphics Card for the games that I want to play, such as Fallout 4 and the Witcher 3. Currently, my pc runs Arkham City at about 23 fps (pitiful, I know).

I wanted to upgrade the graphics card in my computer so I decided to take a look inside my case. It turns out that the R5 235 card doesn't have its own power connections and is only connected to the PCI Express. The powers supply is in a cage so that you can't add anything to it (it's only 220W anyway).

My question is this:

What should I do? Should I buy a new power supply and upgrade my current pc, should I cannibalise this pc (only the HDD, CPU, RAM and other drives) into a new one that I build, or sell this pc and get a new pre-built pc?

Thank you for your help

for fallout 4 and witch 3 you may need something powerful. May be like a 960 or 770. And at least a i5-2xxx CPU. Few month ago I built my personal PC for i5-2400and gtx770,it cost me around 450$(usd).show us you budget we can try to help you built a best value pc

Get a beefier PSU and after that get a GPU, the other stuff looks pretty decent

This is one of my options, my birthday's coming up soon and I've just had a load of exams, my results and birthday should hopefully give me enough money to upgrade both of these components. However, my problem is that I'm not sure which version of PCIe my PC uses, so I'm not sure what GPU I can actually get

do not worry about the pcie they are all about the same. Depend how much money you have we can decide what gpu you can get. If you are short of money get a gtx960, if not get a gtx970 or rx480

for gaming this PC is clearly not good enough. I don't know if that is a customer power supply in the case. You may not able to change a new one. What is budget. So we can come up some idea

If I were to sell this PC, I'd get £100GBP at most, should hopefully get £300-ish in the near future which would give me a budget of £400GBP which is around $520USD, I'd quite like to get an RX 480 in there, but I'm aware that that would account for over half of my budget, they're about £230 here.

This was the option I was looking at. Do prebuilt PCs ever come with any sort of way to block the user from upgrading the PC?

no. I don't think they block you upgrade you PC. Just make sure you have a enough room for a rx480 and the power supply is the standard. 300 euro are good enough for you to get a 480 and 500w power supply.lets me know if you have more questions

Okay, thank you very much

oh there is one more thing that you cpu may bottleneck you new graphic card. And if you do not have enough money get a used gtx970 it is around 180$

I should be able to afford an RX480 and 500W PSU, but my CPU is an A10-7800. Is there a better FM2+ CPU you could recommend?
