I'm looking for some help. I'm currently running a Asrock 990FX extreme 3 mobo with my old GTX 260 (BFG edition) and 2x HP w2007v Monitors.

Reason i have not previously upgraded my GPU is due to the fact it is water cooled and has not treated me badly. it still is running perfectly fine, but my birthday is coming up and I'm trying to use it as an excuse to upgrade. My issue is that i cannot afford to buy 2 new monitors. These ones are VGA. So my question is; If i was to buy a new modern card with HDMI output could I keep my current card too for the VGA outputs and still see a massive improvement on performance or would I specifically need to plug both monitors into the new card (i.e. get new monitors)? my GTX 260 is SLI ready too if that makes a difference. If anyone can help that would be appreciated. I just do not want to go out and buy a new card and find out that i cannot use it. Also maybe is there a way to convert VGA to HDMI in the case i would have to chuck out my old GPU?

There are plenty of VGA to HDMI cables and adapters out there. I wouldn't waste my time finding a second 260 to SLI when there's so much better out there, but a 260 makes a perfectly good backup GPU. I have my old GTX 260 and a Radeon 5670 just in case I need something to replace a dead/RMA'ed GPU in a hurry.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

thank you very much, i did not realise at all that you could get HDMI -> VGA adaptors. now looking for a modern card, which will undoubtedly be downgraded by my PCIE 2.0 mobo :( . but will be a vast improvement on what my current card can pump out. thanks again for the fast reply.
