I'm looking to build a pfSense router because I no longer want to mess around with router and ap combos

My logic is if I'm going to spend a lot of money on a router I might as well build one that I know will never let me down and have a good firewall.

Is the APU a silly choice?

Are there any alterations that would make it more suitable?

Broadband speed: (I hope to upgrade to double these speeds in the near future)

Down - 40mbps

Up - 15 mbps

Would these motherboards be more suitable?

You will be burning though power.

I would suggest getting something like a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite but if you want to build your own router, get low powered parts.

Well what recommendations for parts can you give? I have never built a system with hardware for this type of use, only gaming PCs.
