1024QAM Range Extenders

iPC

Hi, I built a PC, and I'm thinking of getting the ASUS PCE AC88 and to reach that performance, the ASUS RT AC3100 Router. Now my computer is downstairs, and the router has to be upstairs, so do you know a way I can extend the signal without losing too much of the 1024QAM wireless performance? Thank you!

Range extenders by definition cut your speeds in half if they are using a single radio chip for both communication to the main router and for broadcasting their network, because they have to spend half their time talking to each device. Actual throughput in that case is much lower than half. To avoid this, you can get a range extender with dual radios, but most of those are meant to use 2.4 GHz for clients and 5GHz for their uplink, or vice versa. I haven't seen many dual 5 GHz range extenders.

The real solution is to run ethernet to where you want the second wireless device, and install an AP (or a router configured to be an AP)
