Windows asks me to format drive e before I can use it, what is a proper allocation unit size and volume label? And should I do quick format?

The proper allocation is the maximum size allowable they give you for the disk, provided you are not going to install any other operating system on that disk. The label should default to C. For future reference, any Troubleshooting threads should be posted in the Troubleshooting section of the forum rather than General Discussion. Also, do not double post.

Its only C if its his OS or first drive, he stated E so I imagine this is a USB and hes in the OS now. also alloc units are not the volume or capacity, it is often like 4096 bytes not 32gb.

Leave the alloc units alone, windows knows best in this case, if the volume seems right(like 14gb for a 16gb drive) then quick format is fine, if it seems way off then go to disk management and check the partitions in case the drive was corrupted or split previously. The label is just the nickname like My Files or Memes.
