Win 7 to 10

I am a college student and I have a laptop (acting as a desktop) and a gaming tower. My "desktop" is running win 7 and my school is running win 7. My gaming tower is running win 10. I am thinking strongly about migrating everything over to my gaming tower and make it my home pc (I have a macbook air to take with me on campus). What problems (if any) am I going to be facing when it comes to using a school computer or emailing certain files/docs to my instructors, as well as migrating everything to my gaming tower. I am nervous as I adore Win 7 and hate to leave it but it is getting very expensive and hard to find at a decent price. Thank you in advance.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

Most people's issues with Windows 10 is an 'upgrade' from Windows 7. In my case, my start menu failed to work and several other quirks were discovered. I found out through research that to curb most problems, a reformat was recommended. It's a pain I know, but ever since then I've had zero issues. So I'd recommend, if you're able, to back up your stuff and format the drive, then do a fresh install of Windows. Conversely, go ahead and upgrade and see how it works...if for some reason you hate it and/or shit stops working on you, Windows will allow you to roll back to 7 within thirty days.

 

When it comes to compatibility, between the two operating systems shouldn't be an issue, especially when it comes to just straight email and documents. Your only barrier is the version of whatever program your using, not necessarily what OS it happens to be in. For instance, Microsoft Office 2003 vs 2016, there might be an issue. Overall, I'd just try your luck, it's not like it'll brick your system (and if does, sue Microsoft just like that one lady and win ten grand).

Man screw 10 Gs. Give me at least 100,000 dollars.

 

I will be moving all the documents and programs to the gaming machine. So upgrading problems will not be an issue. I hate the search when looking for programs or documents on Win 10, Win 7 is awesome with that.

Meh, it's not so bad. I was a die hard 7 fan too and while it's still good, 10 isn't as bad as most would make it seem. Sure it has got its faults, but overall it's pretty neat. I feel clunky when I go back to 7 or 8.1 now. But in all honesty, people fought 7 when they were told to give up XP so really this isn't much different in this man's opinion. Either way, good luck dude.

I agree with ya. It's hard to determine how things will go when some people and organizations are still running XP. That has been/ is my biggest concern.
