Well. I should have a shitload of thermal  headroom, the Xeon is idling in the high 20's early 30's. On the silent CPU fan profile. Not even my i5 4440 idles that low when I use the Seidon on it.

they are normally on a weekend so you wouldn't miss too much. i had to miss 1 1/2 days to go to Cambridge, but it was well worth it. the full 3 days cost under £120 including hotel, food, £65 of fuel and £10 entry ticket. it was worth it just for the experiance of using ln2 and meeting people who actually like overclocking and benching irl! PM me if you want to borrow some 775 chips. i can send you a few, as long as you send them back when your done with them, its fine with me :)

Well I work most hours on the weekend as I'm not at college :(

What 775 chips do you have in mind? I might take you up on your offer at some point :)

If you have a motherboard with the G33 chipset like my P5K, I could send you my Pentium 4 630 and 631. I'd do cross architecture comparisons myself but P4 support was dropped.

I only have P45 at home. We have G31 at work though.

maybe ask if you can work during the week in a college holiday to make up for it?

i can safely send you 6 at once in my special 6 cpu box:

Celeron 430

Pentium 4 519K (which i can't use with P45)

Pentium 4 630

Pentium D 925

Pentium E2160 ( i have s super binned one and a random one)

Pentium E5200 ( i'll send you a decent one, because i have loads and there isn't much point sending a crap one)

Pentium E5300

Pentium E5700

Pentium E6000 ES ( i hvae 2 of these)

Pentium E6500

C2D E6550

C2D E6850

C2D E7400

Once your done, just send them back in the box and then i can send you another 6 if you want :D

i will be able to lend you my C2Q 9650 and super binned C2D E8400 as well, after i have phase cooled them. I also have lent some other C2D and a Pentium to one of my mates as well, but i forget which they were. :) i might also improve my collection of C2D's as i need a decent 6xxx and 7xxx to beat Prokon :)

Rig Specs:

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Well. It seems that my QX6850 is worthless next to my Xeon X5450 after re-running its benchmark:

i trust harry, but for all i know he could be called Steve and have a huge pile of extreme C2Q sitting next to him :P

yes, that guy has only oc'ed an 8320 or something to 4.2ghz. we both had people helping though, because it was our first time using ln2. i did have the massive advantage of knowing the msi bios layout a bit and i have overclocked haswell before.

Yeah, that can be challenging going from AMD to Intel.

I still have trouble getting older 8350's past 5ghz on air. :P

My house is fucking freezing omf. It's 60f atm.

360MHz slower and the Xeon edges out the 6850.

Oh, I'm missing one of my own benchmarks. Yeah that will change soon. (figured out the 'gold' settings for using all 8GB of RAM when overclocking, even with 2 stick naked).

you are still pretty far away from what that cpu could do. i start 775 cpu's at 1.5v on the cpu and 1.3v on the NB and FSB! i think you should be able to get just over or very near 4ghz with that chip.

I do 1.35V on my 775s I find high voltages often yield almost nothing and are less stable to bench :(

For now I'm going by Intel's safe limits, so 1.45V @ 85oC. So far only 1 core has hit 62oC @ 1.4V, 3.8GHz. And I'm increasing the voltage way over what I need at the moment, I'm going to exceed 4GHz soon.

Edit: on a side note I've almost got the CPU drawing 100W.

i find mine are ok upto 1.6-1.7v then they overheat and become unstable. that was when it was very cold though. my room was 8c an the air outside going through the cpu fans was probably 2-3c.

When i get my phase cooler i'll see what these chips can really do. the #1 E8400 on SS is the same bin as mine is, so i have high hopes http://hwbot.org/benchmark/pifast/rankings?start=28&hardwareTypeId=processor_1512#start=0#interval=20#coolingType=7

well i hope you get 4ghz. i'm off the bed now. got to get up at 5.15am, to go on a 3 hour drive, to a car meet at a dyno :)

3.8GHz, and another 20MHz step. I'm getting a bit nervous about the RAM without spreaders, 1 stick is ultra low profile DDR2 800, and the other is just plain DDR2 800. Time for my Team Xtreem Dark kit:
