hi,

if a motherboard says it can run ram with "2400MHz O.C" frequency, what does it mean? you just plug in the 2400 mhz stick and works or you need to do something else? (i know it stands for overclock, but?"

also, can a 4gb module with 1333 mhz run along with another 4gb 1600 mhz?

2400mhz could be not be officially supported and tested by intel or amd on that particular model, but the motherboard supports it.

a 1333 dimm will work with a 1600 dimm, but will downclock to the lowest speed which in this case is 1333.

Well you can use 2400MHz memory. I think you will need to go in BIOS and change some settins, but yeah it will work.

Tecnically pairing different RAM sticks can work, however its more complicated than to say "will a 1333mhz stick work with a 1600mhz stick?".

CAS latency is also important, if they dont fit you will have problems. If you pair a 10/10/28 with an 11/11/30 stick problems are just bound to show up. If the computer even boots with that combination that is.

You could ofc over- or downclock one RAM stick, but then again, that also not always works and is one of the most annoying things to do & test.

Aswell you gota check what manufacturer brand the RAM sticks are, if you pair Kingston with Corsair, that will probably not work. If you pair two of the same, the odds of them working will be more likely.

Also, as allready mentioned by others, the one 1333mhz stick will "bottleneck" the 1600mhz one, making it run at 1333mhz aswell and overclocking here is, well dangerous for the 1333 stick.

Ultimately, RAM is not expensive anymore. A 8GB stick/kit is like 40$ and personaly I'd just invest that now. Especially if you would at some point want to upgrade again, you will be able to buy matching RAM and easily increase to 16 or 32GB, depending on your choice(s).
