What are you using the computer for mostly?

If it's gaming, the 6700k is the CPU to go for. If it's editing, then maybe one of the Haswell-E chips.

Heh.. I actually own that monitor you had listed (Samsung U28D590D), had only just realized that :D

With $4,500 I would recommend using a Haswell-E CPUs such as the 5820k definitely for editing. Also does well in gaming!

The majority is in fact gaming however I do want the capability to do editing and rendering.

I mean... with a budget like that, you could opt for the Asus Rampage V edition 10 and a 6800k, even a 6850k if you want to spend a bit extra.

keep in mind approx 700 of the budget is for a custom water cooling loop.

Aah I see.

I personally can't get along with those (Yes I have tried it, for a year..) software choices, I use CINEMA 4D :P.

But still, Haswell-E would suffice for that because you have 6 cores, it can overclock well and performs very similarly to the 6700k in gaming alongside your GPU !

1. Get a 6800-6900k Processor. Get a new CPU, not an old one.

2. Get a 2x16gb kit of RAM instead, so you can upgrade to 64gb. in the future if you need to

3. Rethink your storage solution. You would be better off with 1x Samsung 256gb. M.2; 1x Samsung 850 Pro 1tb SSD; and then a couple WD Blacks/Red 4tb. HDDs. I don't know how much space the software you will be using will take up, but I imagine it will fit on the M.2 drive. Your project files and media are in use will be kept on the 1tb. SSD with any other programs, and everything else and previous project files and all media will be kept on the HDD.

4. Make sure you get/have an HB SLI bridge.

5. I don't know how much it would cost to water cool 2 gpus and a CPU so I will roll with $700. From EKWB, the CPU water block is $73 and each GPU block is $125. A reservoir is $70, and a rad is $60, and the Swiftech MCP655 is $87. But depending on what you are getting, you might have a difference price.

I made a build for you that I would prefer/recommend that encompasses my thoughts above.

If you end up spending less on water cooling, you might want to get another SSD or HDD. But hope this helps and if you have questions or comments please reply. Have a good day!

The 6700k would be the fastest when it comes to gaming, and slightly slower at rendering. The more cores might help you depending on the software you use.

If you do more gaming, I'd go with the 6700k.

the reason i chose the 4 red drives i because in a raid 10 i will get decent read/writes without sacrificing redundancy. and i would rather have the 512gb of m.2 storage than 1 tb of reg ssd storage. also i've gotta stick to the nzxt phantom 820 for the color scheme and leds. also the reason i chose an x99 deluxe two, plus it has 8 memory slots so i can i upgrade to 64gb if i need to and just jump to 8 sticks but maybe there is a downside to that? honestly i figured that was better than sacrificing quad channel now to have to upgrade to 64gb to get the quad channel.

However i have toyed with the idea of upgrading to the 6850k the only really benefit i see is the 40 pci-e lanes instead of 28 which really doesn't give me much benefit.

The difference between the performance of the 6700k and 5820k in games is very minor, especially considering you can achieve very similar clock speeds on the 5820k if you overclock, which i plan to do. Plus more and more games are optimizing for more cores more and more so future games will perform better on the 5820k down the road. plus 5820k is cheaper now.
