Too much right?!?

Go to solution Solved by Energycore,

Eh, don't cancel the order on the GQ. It's a good power supply and good power supplies don't go for less than $50

I have ordered for my friend a psu EVGA 650W GQ but its not yet delivered but i think that is to much for that new build (Msi 170A Pro Gaming, i5 6600k (maybe will be a little overclock after) , will be buying a RX 480 (waiting for a better design like the sapphire nitro edition) , Kingston 2x8GB 2400MHz and a WD caviar blue 1TB maybe and SSD.

Do you recommend me going to 600W or 550W? and something cheaper? or its ok the 650 if i overclock?

THere is no such thing as "Too much wattage" since it's just a limit, not a recommendation of what kind of power draw you should have.

650W is most definitely enough to power that entire system even with an overclock on both the CPU and the GPU pushed to the absolute limit. Try maybe the new CX550M psu from corsair (Check for grey sticker, not green) or the seasonic S12ii 520W

That just means that when you're gaming you'll be sitting more or less in the sweet spot of that PSU's efficiency curve, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

A good PSU lasts years and years and years, too, so if you buy overkill right off the bat, then you won't need to upgrade if you decide to do something quite stupid in the future (like I don't know Crossfire RX 690s?)

Keep the GQ.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
