What's more healthy for a video card: constant low temps or less fan use?

Just got a 1070 and it has the feature of the fans turning off when there isn't any load. Thing is, temps go around 40-50 degrees when idle (but at least stay at 60 under load).

What should I do to keep my card healthy: Leave as it is and let the fans only turn on during heavy load or make the fans constantly running? (which makes the card idle at 35-40).

The fan would die before the chip burns out. I would let the fans turn off when not needed. The GPUs are tested up to 100C or used to be so you are fine as long as you don't go above 85C

Fan's have like 50,000 to 15,000 hours MTBF.  So if you let them run 24/7 they would last between 6 and 18 years.....  

 

Personally, I can't stand my GPU running at 50C when it isn't doing anything.... I would just make a custom curve that keeps the fans on the lowest setting (Maybe 20% or so) until the GPU starts seeing a load.

Thats what I do with my Windforce cooled G1-970, 30% until 58*c then starts ramping up.

@ 50-55% fan speed, it equalizes at 65-68*c

@ 60-65% it stays around 60-64*c

I don't like it louder than that.
