My build upgrade

So I have finally got my rig to a point where im happy with it so thought it was time for an update.

rig pre upgrade:

i3 4170

h81 matx

660 ti

120gb ssd and a 640gb hdd

500w antec vp 500p

antec 300

 

post upgrade:

i5 2400

1155 mitx

12gb ddr3 1600

r9 290x dcu 2 / or for now a 6990 cos I like it

120gb ssd and 1tb hdd

cooler master g650m

deepcool tesseract sw white

 

It is my pride and joy and I love it so much...

I also got a mechanical backlit keyboard, a good gaming mouse instead of my crapo wireless one and went from 3x19.5 monitors (one of wich was 1080) to a 23 inch 1080, 19.5 1080 and a 900 1080

2. you're kinda sidegrading going from a haswell i3 to a sandy i5 so...meh?

im awear its better but I just like it. to be clear I still have both and can just swap them whenever...

its not really a sidegrade. the i5 2400 is considerablly better in things that use all 4 cores (known from own testing as well as research) plus selling the i3 and board meant that I could buy the 290x so deff worth it imo

The 2 HT threads of the i3 really does close the gap between it and the 2400...you're right with all 4 cores loaded, the i5 is faster but better single thread and higher clock speed of the i3 really does make them pretty equal  (plus you're sacrificing sata 3, PCIe 3 and USB 3 unless you got a motherboard with an extra chip for them...)

yeah but everything I do uses 4 threads...

also, I have nothing fast enough to saturate sata 2 and this board still has usb 3. I got the i5 and mobo for 22.50, sold the other stuff for enough to buy me my 290x
