Hewo~..

Recently been browsing, and well.. I plan to sell my 970 to my brother meanwhile I can upgrade into eaither Crossfire 480 RX or a 1070, but not sure. Since my main monitor is 144, and only seen HDMI on the AMD card,  yet this might be delayed until August, to see the other coolers instead of reference cards of the 480 at first!

But I've seen Nvidia as always being the more, long lasting card and such due to my bad past with AMD cards before! Had a 7970 Powercolor, that died 2 months after I bought it sadly! And had several blue screens while playing! :(

I do play some of the modern games but most be released next year that I got my eyes on.

Advisors, ADVISE me!

Using the search button helps... this has been discussed about 100 times in the last week or so..

GTX 1070 is in a totally different league compared to the RX480 so it's hardly a Comparison.

Let your wallet decide.

Well, was not single 480, would be two of them in that case!

The 480 isn't an upgrade. It's pretty much the exact same thing as a 970, with an AMD sticker on (and a lower price tag).

If you want a real upgrade, aim for a 1070. As said, any non-reference 1070 will do. I vote the G1, but EVGA's cards or the Asus strix are also other good options.

Yeah, but also, I would not buy a single 480, would Crossfire them in that case! Or but I do not like the heat output that we see on those 480 reference cards!

He said crossfire 480s

Anyway I went with a 1070 (FE) and it seems like a fairly powerful. Definitively can drive 120+hz at 1080p, only very intense games like Witcher 3 might require lower details to achieve consistently high framerates but still fairly nice.

480s in crossfire are also quite good but if you factor in the fact that you need a crossfire motherboard, decent case with good airflow, significantly better PSU to run and and that many games, specially while new, don't properly support crossfire, single 1070 sounds better to me. But crossfire 480s are perfectly viable if you already have all this covered.

Yeah, and while the RX 480 already rests at 300 euros, them better cooling ones will most likely cost even more so it'd be eaither 530 or 680 :S So might go for the STRIX 1070 after this month! If my brother still be interested in buying my 970. Unless 970 and 1070 is able to work together, though, that might be waste, as the 1070 will run down to the speed of 970 I think.

Woops, didn't realize it was CF. It's such a stupid idea that my brain automatically refutes it. My bad for not reading it properly.

No actually it would be multi gpu not direct SLI so they'd both run at their speeds, but at 1080p even with high refresh rates you won't really need anything else for a while witha 1070.

Also I personally don't have good experiences with Asus cards and many do not either, I'd choose a non founders EVGA if at all available to you but that's just me.

I guess, but my experience with ASUS have been well though! And kinda fits my ASUS theme for it all :S  But yeah, might go with 1070 if my brother buys my 970, as it costs 280 in store, I sell it for 150 to him.. So that will ease his 760 some, and me being more future proof!

Ah my bad, well either way 1070 is still a better choice. Crossfire has enough issues as is (SLI not far behind).

GTX 1070 all the way.

RX 480 have some issues with pci power draw ... so with 2 of them in your system ... oh well that would be bad for your motherboard.

RX 480 crossfire will have scaling problems

heat problems

more power draw

more noise

more cost

The only benefit you MIGHT get from crossfire rx 480, is up to 15% better performance than gtx 1070, but only in few games where optimisation for crossfire is up to date.

There are tons of games that don't even support crossfire or SLI, so another problem right here.

It's better for you to get gtx 1070, and in the future you can always buy another 1070 and have it in SLI for 4K resolution.

For now gtx 1070 is you best bet!

Yeah, aiming for the 1070, but depends on my brother if he wants to buy me 970 or not, as I sell it to him 100 euros cheaper, as it is 260 from the PC vendors around.

But also, unsure about my motherboard and CPU itself. Quite old ones, just hopefully they last like, for longer time, not sure how well they do with the new GPUs!
