Looking into 4k Freesync monitors

I saw LG had a couple of 27" IPS ones for under $500 but I've read some complaints about backlight bleeding. I'm also unsure of what size monitors actually make the best use of higher resolutions like that. What should I know before I can pick the right monitor for me? :x
