You would be better off just doing a clean install of Windows to the SSD. Moving an OS from Drive to Drive is never worth all the trouble.

As for the SSD, Samsung 850 EVO, Crucial MX200, Sandisk SSD Ultra II, or if you want to just waste money on one that looks cool Hyper X Savage. Those are the best performance wise on the market for the price from what I've tested.

i have windows 10 already installed on my 1tb hard drive and i want to move only that on an ssd as a boot drive. what kind of ssd should i get and how would i move windows and have only windows on my ssd.

Any ssd will be much faster, but you will most likely need to do a reinstall to get only windows on it.

You'd either have to get a 1 tb ssd, or resize your windows partition to fit on the ssd, which can go wrong, then clone that which usually doesn't go wrong as long as you use a good tool. Really clean installing is the better way to go like Ophidio said, with a decent ssd shouldn't take more than a couple hours, just make sure you get your drivers and important programs in advance to speed things up

To reinstall your OS you just need to create a media creation tool on a USB stick and boot to that from your BIOS. You don't need a key for Windows since you already have Windows activated on your PC.

Please take note that Windows Keys bind to the motherboard. Not the drive. You can just change your drive as many times as you want just keep the same motherboard and you will never have to buy the OS again.
