What does "washing up" entail?

 

I'm always of the opinion that while you live under your parents roof, you live by their rules. Don't like it, and can't negotiate? Move out.

 

I feel he over reacted, but I also kind of understand it from his point of view. He assigned you a set of responsibilities, and you neglected it. 

 

Also, if he was the one that paid for the laptop (even if it was a gift to you), he's still allowed to take it away as a form of punishment.

 

Difficult to say if what you did was right or wrong without knowing your personal situation.
