Just wondering when we're expected to have them, they're really exciting to think about and it just sounds amazing that we're going to have them soon. Was it Seagate or WD that said we were planning to have 100 TB + HDDs? I know it was something with like a laser involved in the hardware. I forgot the date and I'm not sure what it was.

But why. If I had a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD ill be more than happy with my storage system.

I do have 2 1TBs but think one died. Have yet to plug it in.

I say it because of server use, imagine what you could do with just a single drive, imagine what you could do with several. I assume the cost would be extremely high though once they first come out. Data centers, home servers, file servers, several partitions for format types of storage, etc...

You can never have too much storage. Although, I'm personally waiting for SSDs to become viable for mass storage as I'd like to build an ultra compact NAS to replace my current one -- however ten 4tb SSDs is still a bit (just a bit.....right) expensive.

Because there are people who thought the same about a 60GB hdd at one point.

So in 12-13 years 100TB will be the new 2TB?

You could probably look back at how fast drives have grown in size and make an educated guess as to when 100 + TB drives would come out. given its 2016 and we're only on 8's and 10's i'd say its gona take longer than 2018 unless a breakthough in the tech is found. And thats not taking into consideration if they run into the limmits of the technology. (IE you can only make platters so dense before the current system no longer works). I'd guess like 3-5 years
