Windows key

A quick question that popped into my head about my upgrades.

I would have to reinstall windows onto the ssd i would get but can i use a windows 8.1 key for windows 10?

I got my pc with 8.1 and was wondering if it worked?

If you upgrade your w8.1 system to w10 first then the w8.1 key will work for installing w10 from scratch. (I don't think it will work unless you've upgraded from 8.1 to 10 first though)

i had 8.1 on this system and i have upgraded to 10 but i was wondering if the old key would still work

I believe they've patched the Windows 10 installer somewhat recently to allow you to enter Windows 7/8.1 product keys.
