why not a gtx 1070. The prices really havnt dropped for the 970s so it is a bit of a waste at this point

Why not an RX 480 with a water block? It'll cost cheaper and perform the same or better.

I read about power problem with RX 480

^This. Just get the 1070 with no block. Will get you much more performance than any modded 970.

I would reccomend the Reference Nvidia Gtx 970. Considering you asked about the best 970 in not gonna reccomend anything that isn't a 970 since that wasn't your question.

Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 is your card then. It has the highest TDP of all the 970s and a big library of custom bios online. EK should have a block for it.

It be best to get the ek backplate as well so that you can dissipate the heat of the back vram chips. Not as necessary but why not? Since you'll be overvolting them anyway, might as well.

Heh if only the G1 1070 followed the trend. But Gigabyte wanted to separate the xtreme gaming line. Since the 970 Extreme never seemed to take off.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

Look who's finally coming to their senses! And yeah the 970 Xtreme came out WAY too late for any large scale adoption. By the time it came out the 970 was already far into its first year. Plus the only differences were RGB lighting, slightly better built components, a coating on the PCB and tinkering with the overall looks. I do have to say they took some features off the 1xxx G1 cards to make the Xtreme line look better which I don't approve of but if I had the choice I'd go for the Xtreme card anyways!

First build every: Intel Core i7 4790K, Asus Z97-A/USB 3.1 motherboard, Kingston HyperX FURY 1866 2x8 16GB Kit, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 G1 Gaming, Corsair Obsidian 450D Black ATX Mid Tower, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & 3TB Toshiba HDD, EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2, Corsair H100i GTX 240mm, Gigabyte Bluetooth 4.0/Wifi Card, Logitech G700S. Running on Windows 10

Surface Pro 3: i5 4300U with 8GB of ram and 256GB SSD. Running Windows 10 Pro
