GTX 980ti sale dilemma

So there is a drop in price of the gtx 980ti and it is $400. The gtx 980 is now $315. There is a substantial difference between the performance of the 980 and the 980ti, So I decided to manage the budget of my build to accommodate the ti. So now I'm wondering, how long will it stay at a price like that? On newegg, when it says "see price in cart" it means that the item is cheaper than usual, but how long do those prices last?

They are falling like crazy because they are trying to get rid of stock with the launch of the 10XX cards. The 980's are Yesterdays news and most people wont be buying them. The only reason it says "See price in cart" is because the price is below the MAP, or Minimum Advertised Price. This will be the normal likely for the 980 series in the coming weeks/months.

not very long...as soon as they will only have a few left they will increase the price and it will be back to pretty much an all time high because then they know the remaining cards they can sell to those willing to spend big bucks for SLI.

If you see a 980ti at good price my advise would be to buy it quick before it's over...or get a GTX 1070.

video card prices always go down, so usually, the longer you wait, the better the deal

another option is going used. Check r/hardwareswap for people getting rid of their 980s and 980tis for 1080s

Yea the 1070 is like $450 in the least and most are out of stock so my best bet in the 980ti.

The 980ti has similar performance to a 1070 hence why the price fell to around 1070 prices, but they generally overclock better, but since they are going to eventually run out the price will eventually go up due to scarcity.

So buy them right now? the one I'm looking at it this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500382

I don't know if this is a good card because people are saying "3 slots" or something like that so if you have the time, can you see if it is good? I'm getting an asus z170-a mobo and 750w psu is that helps.

yeah it's a very good card...very quiet and everything but it does take the space of 3 slots because the card is very thick (the cooler on it) so it's NOT a good card for you if you plan on using more than 1 graphics card in your system or if you have plans to populate other PCI slots around the card with somthing else...but if you don't then it's all good...very good card.

How much is it?

The 9xx prices are being pushed down by the GTX 10xx series cards.  Same as last time, just a newer generation.  9xx prices will eventually bottom out when stocks get low enough, so the bottom is probably still a ways off as people go for the 10xx's - would not be surprised to see them go lower still, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

well yeah obvisouly that's a good price for this card...but for 30$ more you can have the MSI lightning at B&H right now...i would rather have that instead personally since this is pretty much one of the 2 best 980ti models available...it's stupidly overbuilt and it's also a binned GPU:

what's your point?

what are you trying to prove son?

like i said...older gen cards when they run out of stock the last few they have in boxes get huge price increase...and it will happen sometime in the near future for the 980ti cards as well hence my recommendation to NOT wait and wait and wait because by then the few last cards they have in stock will be back at 899$ again.

I'm just saying it's silly to go for an older card that's new

you're paying 2-3 times more for the factory seal and accessories.

in this case, don't wait.

Buy now, when prices are much lower

I would go for that but when you are on the limit of a budget every penny seems like a lot. So long as the zotac version isn't bad (i mean come on its a 980ti) im going to get it.

there you go...see we agree...buy it NOW while it's cheap and readily available...don't wait for supply to run out and prices to climb back to an all time high...like i said in my first post...prices will only go so low...and i think right now they are as low as they will ever be.

And NO you don't buy an old card like that usually...but some people might have a GTX 780 and might judge it's a good idea for them to buy that 499$ brand new GTX 780 and ''double'' their performance...even though i would NEVER recommend a stupid move like that, stores know that someone somewhere will do it someday and they are just waiting to catch a fish.

it's a perfectly fine card if you are not interested in SLI like i said the amp omega is also a very high-end model from zotac and it should overclock very well and remain very quiet...it's an excellent ''above average'' model for the GTX 980ti...go for it!
