So as you can see by the title I am having high cpu usage while playing games.  The one game the concerns me the most is gta 5. my frame rate was jumping between 60 to 10 frames. I did not realize it was my cpu causing this until I got a hardware monitor showing my cpu usage and temperature. It showed my cpu switching between 80 and 100% cpu usage. (keep in mind my 8320 was over clocked to 4.0 ghz and never exceeded 60c) so after playing 40 hours of the game I finally got sick of the poor frame rate so i decided to see what would happen if I were to takeoff the over clock. What I found was shocking. My cpu usage went down to 70% to 90% usage. This had my frames jump between 32 and 50 witch is playable in my own opinion, but I still feel the bottle neck in my cpu. My gpu is a r9 380 another thing to note my frame rate did not vary to much when I set the settings between low and high. So if any of you know any good ways fix this or just plain out tell me my cpu is garbage i would highly appreciate that. Thank you for you who took the time to read this

well it's a AMD cpu so of course it's garbage. But gta 5 is a very odd game and I've read quite often that it's full of gremlins and voodoo that will kill frame rates in all but the best builds

The fx 83xx cpus are NOT garbage.

I have a Fury Nitro and an FX 8320E. Screw my life?

Well yes. But they can still offer decent value for your money. I am happy with my 8320E.

There is something wrong there, I own a FX-8350 and uses around 40% or lower. I don't drop below 60 too... :/

Try stress test and screen shot the results. Has this happened the whole time you've owned It? Maybe It's just a bad chip :/

Does GTA V use multiple cores? That could be the reason the CPU usage is so high. Also, what cooler do you have? Temperatures might still be an issue.

I use a program called core temp and it is showing that all of my cores are being utilized. My cooler is a ETS-T40fit.

I do not ever recall this happening to my cpu when I first got it but, I have nothing but problems it seems when I first built this rig about a year. This is the first problem I had to go on a forum site like this and ask.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I stress tested my cpu with prime 95 and it went to a 100% like I expected. I did this for about 5 minutes. I did see my cpu fluctuate the voltage and clock speed as if it was thermal throttling but since it was just fluctuating between the boost clock and the stranded clock I don't necessarily think that's a problem. Sounds like at this stage of the game I should use amd's three year warranty.

I suggest you try to replace the thermal paste on the CPU

Before I replace the thermal paste on my cpu how would that help? Not trying to sound rude I am just trying to understand the science behind it.

Thermal paste Is a paste to 'help' It cool the CPU with the cooler, If you tried to put a cooler on a CPU without thermal paste It will flat out burn the CPU. Thermal paste Is like a cover on a CPU, It helps protecting It, but sill has some heat going towards the CPU, it just wont give enough heat to burn...  The paste takes a while to fade away and just burn up, that's why  It's good to keep re-applying maybe every year or so, and you will notice when you're getting high temps. Just try, It won't hurt.

So the thermal paste is only a month old because I recently got a after market cooler but, I think I found the issue. Task manger is telling me I only have 2 cores and 4 logical cores. So I think you are right about it being a defective chip. Thanks for the help by the way

It maybe a bad chip, but dude. Go into your BIOS and look how many cores It finds, you can add cores back In the BIOS as well, so its good to have a look just In case you turned them off. :D

So I went into my bios and i saw the feature that the video was talking about. It showed it automatically detecting cores. by surprise when I hit manual and surprisingly all the cores were detected and showed that they were enabled. So by no surprise when i rebooted the system my task manger still only sees 4 cores. Thanks tho again for attempting to help but i really thing i should use AMD 3 year warranty
