PC build ~ $1,000 NZD Budget Advice

I am helping a friend build a PC with a budget of around $1,000 NZD, willing to go higher if the investment is worthwhile $1,500 would be about the extent they'd be prepared to stretch their budget. They will be gaming on a TV so 1080p @60fps would be the go to target, not likely to benefit from anything more. Going to be using the PC for light gaming (mostly indie titles but maybe the odd AAA game) as well as media and browsing the web. I will be donating my GTX 680 to see how things run and if they're happy with that, otherwise GPU suggestions welcome. PC will sadly be on carpet and not have the best ventilation towards the back or sides, smaller to mid tower form factor case required. Being able to remotely turn on the PC with a keyboard / mouse or phone or Xbox controller would be a huge plus.

Current build I am looking at:

$200 - CPU - Intel Skylake Core i3 - 6100 (i5 better?)

N/A - GPU - Donated GTX 680 or recommended alternative

$150 - Motherboard - ASUS H170M-E D3

$100 - RAM - 8GB's 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 - 1600 CL9

$280 - SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB

$110 - Case - Corsair Carbide 100R ~$110 (also a 200R for the same price not sure which is better but alternatives welcome also).

$200 - PSU - EVGA SuperNova 650 G1 (Am pretty clueless when it comes to PSUs)

Total $1040 NZD

Sites to buy from:

http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/default.asp

http://www.pp.co.nz/

http://www.ascent.co.nz/

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/

http://playtech.co.nz/

Got my prices from computer lounge, early stage planning so I expect a lot to change and am not set on anything listed and it is entirely likely many of the parts are cheaper at another of the listed stores. If you know of any parts or see anything on those sites or other NZ stores that might be better the recommendations would greatly be appreciated.

You could probably get RAM for a shit ton cheaper and even DDR4 instead of R3. Just make sure its compatible with your motherboard (on the ASUS sight will have all the compatible components when you select your motherboard). Also if you want to shave off $100 I suggest scraping that 500gb ssd and going for a smaller one like 250gb or 120gb. And If you want (up to you 250gb is plently if only storing games and programs) grab a hdd on the cheap to hold all the crap like photos, movies, low demand games (LoL, csgo etc) . Up to him though. Tbh the psu is a bit overkill for an i3 and gtx 680, could save another 100 bucks tops there. just do a bit of research and find you one that won't make your computer explode lmao.

yeah, thats basically what I was saying ^^. better processor and you could swap the case out to the one you had originally selected and even go for a 120gb EVO SSD  there your mate is instantly saving around $150 ,

How much head room would the FSP Group 650W power supply  give for a beefier GPU if they decided to upgrade down the line to something like an RX 480 or GTX 1070 or 1080? Would it be worth spending the extra to get a gold rated power supply like the EVGA SuperNova or would that just be throwing money away?

Also does the i5-6500 3.2Ghz Quad-Core Processor come with a stock cooler / would I need to add one to the order or would it be good without?

Did a run through with my friend of the recommendations for their build which they seemed very happy with and told me they actually anticipated having to spend a bit more. Looking at going with the following and then if anything like extra cooling or they want quieter fans or more storage they can spend buy them as little extras.

Current Build List

CPU Core i5-6500 3.2GHz

GPU GTX 680

Motherboard ASUS H110M-A Micro ATX

RAM Kingston ValueRAM 1x 8GB DDR4-2133 Memory

SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

Case Corsair SPEC-Alpha

PSU FSP Group Power Supply Raiders 650

Pending any tweaks or comments about the CPU cooler and power supply unit that'll probably be what they pull the trigger on and purchase. Thanks for the help!

the 6500 comes with a stock cooler, no worries.

the FSP psu has more than enough headroom for any graphics card.
