If you could get an Asus Z170-A for $70 that had been repaired from bent pins with the only issue being use of only 2 ram slots for a "Just for the lolz" and secondary machine, Would you?

if i could get it i'd probably take $50 for it but then again i'm broke

Since it is so hard to delete quotes, both are staying. I am in the same boat

just double click the top bar of the quote(where the users name is) and press backspace

I went with no.  I'd get a new budget skylake chipset (EX: H170) instead of a Z overclocking chipset that may not perform that function well.

can't really get more that b150 if you're lucky for $70 and the only issue is 2 dead ram slots. plus it would be fore a secondary pc

I don't take risks like that, if you can extensive testing to be sure that the board is okay, then maybe but even then that's just not my taste

true, but it would at most see a SKY OC'd i3 if I did this

could be more wrong with it that isn't immediately apparent. I  swear I've seen new z170 boards under 100$us on sale. That is a nice board though... I understand your dilemma

I learned the hard way not to go cheap on the mobo.  Got burned by two Mach Speeds with cheap china caps.  Both computers lasted less than 18 months and both computers had OEM Windows copies so I was stuck with replacing with the same mobo so they both meant entirely new computers as all of the replacements would have the same bad caps.

Granted this isn't the same situation - but I still wouldn't do it myself.  I'd wait to buy a better new board or possibly a trusted used board.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

Yes, but for a not main rig, I might

Yes, true, but only single gpu and dual ram sticks would be all it would ever see, not even really considering it hard, just had some funny thoughts, but the main reason i want it is the way it looks, and have had many more sketchy boards in the past because this board comes from a highly rated ebay seller that only deals in computers.

I had a z97-a and always told myself I'd get the z170-a if i ever went 1151. Or the one with the water blocked vrm, since i can't seem to stay out of the water.

I couldn't personally overlook the reduced functionality, even though you wouldn't be using it at the time. My plans change constantly so i like to keep things as open as possible.

Only dealing in refurbished mobo does make me feel a little better about it though

yes, my main rig is really solid so it would be more of a functional showpiece, and they are top rated plus on ebay, and the 3 negative reviews are from idiots who put core i7s and stuff into amd motherboards. And the only issue is the 2 ram slots, they tested all rear io, pci slots, io headers, and the only thing that came up bad was the B ram channel. They even overclocked a little
