I just got a 144hz monitor, but Best Buy only had a DisplayPort to HDMI cable. Would that be able to handle the full 144hz? Or should I return it and buy a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable online?

Ok, hdmi 1.4 doesn't support over 60hz. You need dual link dvi or DP
