Bottleneck?

Im going to be building a gaming PC soon and want to know if an i3 6100 would bottleneck a rx 480 and if i should buy the reference version or wait for the aftermarket versions(efficiency, performance, price)

i dont really know about the bottleneck, but it probably depends on what games you play. as for reference or aftermarket, always wait for the aftermarket, i heard the reference gets really hot. (although that isn't necessarily a problem)

Possibly. What kind of games do you play? some of them may require a core i5. Also do you want this to be VR Ready? If so you'll need a core i5.

Depends on the game, but most likely yes. I'd recommend at least an i5

 

What's your budget?

I'm not planning on doing any VR. And for the games I play I'll be playing newer and old titles(CS:GO, GTA V, BF4...)

if he's suggesting RX 480 and a core i3 his budget is probably around $700-900 USD. In which case he should still have a core i5.

Core i5 Then. No doubt about it. And while you're at it could you post the rest of your build as well?

If budget is an issue then you don't need to buy a fancy core i5. a Core i5-6500 will be just fine.

Yes i3-6100 definitely will bottleneck! RX 480 = GTX 970
