Are curved monitors better?

So a friend of mine recently got a curved monitor from the PX. A Samsung 1080p 144hz refresh rate monitor.  The thing is massive, easily 44in. When I sat down and played WOW for a few minutes, the level of immersion was insane. So the question is, are curved screens worth the extra $ and are there any negatives to having one?

Theyre more expensive but they look fancier. Id take my mates X34 over any normal monitor anyday.

Needs money for car parts :P

Not necessarily, but to my knowledge the curve only really exists in high end monitors.

- ASUS X99 Deluxe - i7 5820k - Nvidia GTX 1080ti SLi - 4x4GB EVGA SSC 2800mhz DDR4 - Samsung SM951 500 - 2x Samsung 850 EVO 512 -

The biggest down side I've heard about curved monitors is the potential for backlight bleed. Linus has mentioned this in a number of his monitor reviews. But from the sounds of things if they are well manufactured this isn't an issue.

They're awesome, but in my opinion more so with 2+ (3 is awesome) in a surround setup.

But from what I've read if you're not looking at them dead on, its not that great.

I used curved one. Never tried non-curved one of the same size.

The curve is virtually unnoticeable as long as you sit right in front of it; and will become noticeable when you are positioning yourself to the left/right of the screen.
