New rig for editing

Hey guys I'm a newbie here and I plan on building my first rig. I need it mainly for video editing in Premiere and After effects as well as Ps and Lr. I don't plan on going all out and getting 1080's in sli or anything but I do need it to be capable of possibly working in 4k for a larger monitor but only processing 1080p footage. I also want a small form so it all has to fit on a mini-itx board and in the corsair 380T. My main question is should I put most of my money to the graphics card and just use a mid end cpu or vice versa. I'm currently looking at either a GTX 970 4gb from MSI or a RX 480 8gb with i5 6600. My budget is around $1500AUD.

If you just using premiere and not playing many games id personally get a gtx 950 and a i7. You don't use much gpu when using premiere and use lots of cpu.

 

Id use the stock cooler, its more than good enough for a non oced cpu.

 

Id also get a ssd for boot.

Other way around buddy. Eats cuda core for breakfast. That isn't to say it doesn't use the CPU it is just much faster with the GPU

Just keeping this here as a You don't need that fast of a cpu. H264 encoding and decoding is done on the cpu and thats what most people work with these days. You can't use cuda for everything. When editing videos there are two major points. Work flow in time line and render times. I find render times to be an accepted thing that will take awhile on any system. What I think and many others too is time line work. If it lags when scrubbing that is a major problem. Also when applying transitions and effects that is rendered by the GPU mostly. My advice is have lots of RAM 16gb+, really fast storage (SSD), a decent CPU that won't bottleneck the GPU and a high end GPU with lots of Cuda cores and a decent amount of Vram.
