1070 is better than a titian X which is better than a 980 TI. But sometimes the 980 TI massively overclocked can beat a non overclocked 1070 in some games.

Performance-wise, they're quite close. But in the long run, the 1070 will most certainly be the better card due to driver support, features, etc.

However, the 980ti is still a very powerful card, and I've seen many hit the sub-$450 price range, making them a reasonable alternative if you don't want to wait for the availability issues of the 1070.

So the 980ti and 1070 have confused me because I've heard/read people say the 1070 is better and some people say the 980ti is better. So if someone can bring some light to my confusion that would be awesome. thanks

They are roughly the same, with OC tipping the win to either the 1070 or 980ti depending on the lottery.

BUT, they 1070 consumes less power, generates less heat, has more Vram, newer tech and the drivers will most likely enhance performance over time. So go for that.

The 1070 IS better in actual performance numbers. The best deal is debatable, since some 980 ti's (especially used ones) will be extremely discounted.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

The 980 Ti is better at a price/performance point right now and if you run mostly DX11 games. The whole shpeil about NVIDIA sucking at DX12 was because of one game and the rest of the DX12 titles don't use Async Compute. And I don't see it becoming the hot new feature but something that's used when necessary (basically big large scale strategy games)

Anyway, if you really want the latest and greatest, then of course you're going to have to get a 1070.

EDIT: Actually, the price/performance thing may not be true. xP
