Hi everyone, i'll explain my problem since i've been looking for a solution for quite a while but with no success, basically internet in my country is kinda crappy, i currently have a 7,3Mbps connection (and like 0,9 in upload) and there are a lot of devices connected to it (like 4 smartphones, 2 tablets and 2 pcs)

I'm currently using my provider's modem downstairs and an Asus modem upstairs as a Wirless AP since the Asus modem is not supported by my provider so it won't work for some reason.

the thing is i want to limit the amout of bandwidth the Asus modem can use so that people can still use internet upstairs but it won't make the whole line explode when someone watches a youtube video (because even when set to 144p youtube still uses all 7Mb to load the entire video, it just takes less, and youtube doesn't even load the video all at once but in bits, resulting in bursts of bandwidth usage that disrupt all the network).

Because right now my only choice is to unplug the AP when i'm playing an online game so that i don't get random 1000 ping spikes because someone's phone is downloading an update.

i'll gladly accept every bit of advice i can get, since this is a problem i've had since forever, it's really frustrating and i can't seem to get around it (i already tried putting QoS on my Asus AP but it doesn't change anything)

thanks to everyone in advance

Just to verify, that 'Asus modem' actually  is a router ;)
My ISP has the same kind of setup, I've got a Coax Modem with 1 RJ-45 port on it (Not that combo router modem pack shit) and I've build myself a pfSense machine to use as my router behind that modem.
You could buy a simple router that supports prioritizing (Most to all routers with this feature are business grade one).
As far as I can tell you do have such an consumer grade b*tchy Modem and router in 1 combo so that limits you already.

What model of Asus router are you using? This might help me out finding a solution.

I'm currently using an Asus DSL-N14U, all the wireless stuff is connected there, my pc is connected on the main modem which is a technicolor tg582n (i can't even set up a MAC filter on this thing it's unreal)

Before I upgraded to a Business package my ISP limited me the same way they did you (Not in speeds, I still had 200 Mbps/12Mbps though).

You could to is building a small cost effective pfSense box (Like a Raspberry Pi 3);
This will cost you around $50-isch and allows you to limit the speed efficiently. <- (This is one of the lazy and expensive solutions).

Its weird that the QoS doesn't work for that Router. (I never use and never will use Qos).

it's not really the ISP that limits my bandwidth, it's just that connection speeds in my country are garbage, it's like 5Mbps on average because all the infrastructure is really old and nobody ever upgraded it, we should get a 30Mbps for 2018 (in theory) either that or i'll move to the city lol, not that i'm really in the middle of nowhere.

but yeah i'll see if i can do that, QoS is currently set on the Asus AP but every phone that watches youtube still uses the full bandwidth so idk

Keep in mind: If you set a QoS speed, it will apply that speed to every device, so if you've got 7 Mbps speed and you want every device to have 1Mbps, set it to 1Mbps, not 7 Mbps. QoS is not the max speed you want to devide over all your users, its the speed per user ;)

unless i didn't see it, it doesn't allow me to set a specific speed for device, but just a degree of priority the device is going to have (high/medium/low)

Oh, must've looked at the wrong image then.

I've forgotten that the Asus router is set to be a AP, this disables QoS since it has no controll over that anymore.
I buying a router and put your pc and that AP behind that router will solve the problem.

This will result in a Double-NAT or Triple-NAT which wil result in a higher ping and lower speed (Depending on the hardware).

Setting up QoS on that router will do the trick then.

You could also just install software that limits the speed, but that requires you to install software on every device and I'm not shure there's software for mobile devices that do so.

yeah that's probably what i'm gonna need to do, just buy another router that actually works with my ISP and set up a QoS on that one, i've been looking for sw that limits the speed for a lot for mobile but with no success

No no no, thats not what You need to do at all. You don't need to replace the ISP's Modem/Router combo. Just buy a router and plug it into that router/modem combo thing. Then plug all your devices in the new router.
