Read speed VS Internet speed (ms)

Hello guys,

 

I was wondering one of these days if the read/write speed of my storage device can

be relevant to the internet speed! When i say this.. i mean for games...for example:

 

World of warcraft - if i have 500ms in wow, and i get a SSD is it going to lower my MS in game? even if a lil bit?

 

I was wondering of this because of when the loading screen appears - like.. its going to be a faster load with a SSD of course

but does this have anything even if just a minor change on the latency?

SSDs will affect loading times and nothing else. Ping and read speeds aren't tied together whatsoever.

When programs are launched, they are loaded into the RAM, not run directly from the hard drive.

First, you need to understand what the 500ms (which is a lot, by the way) means. The number your presented with is called the latency or ping and denotes the time it takes an internet package (a small piece of information that is sent through the network) to go to the server and back to you. This is also called the round trip time. The higher this number, the longer it takes the server to receive your packages and the longer it takes you to receive the server's packages.

 

The things that affect your ping are primarily:

• your internet connection
• the connection between your modem and your computer
• your network adapter
• the load on your network or internet connection

You see that an HDD or SSD isn't in this list. As Sarcasm Glenwing explained, your HDD and SSD affect the loading times of your game.

 

As I said earlier,  500ms ping is really high. Are you by any chance gaming via a WiFi connection?
