Pcie x16 not working

Wait, so you plugged your monitor into the GPU but the GPU wasn't outputting a display signal but your iGPU was?

 

If that's so, try looking in your bios for a setting to disable the iGPU. That should do the trick.

Without much knowledge I installed my graphics card in the x8 slot instead of the x16 and it worked fine...

Except for my cooling. And it was a pain to plug stuff in in the tiny space between my gpu and psu

 

So I moved my graphics card into the other slot.

And my Intel integrated graphics kicked in. The resolution was weird and on nzxt cam I couldnt find my gpu. Why was it not recognized? I plugged it in correctly and the fans were running.

Ok let me clear this up. My monitor is still connected to my gpu but my software is pretending like it's not even there. The resolutions are different and it isn't running games well.

gtx 750ti

i5 6600k

Yes I plugged it back into the x8 slot and everything went back to normal  but I looked at benchmarks and x16 seems to gain a small fps boost.

the 750ti shouldn't come even remotely close to the bandwidth cap of PCIE 3.0 x8. a 980ti isn't even capped by x8. I don't know why you could be running into the issue with your primary slot, or how your iGPU is taking display from your graphics card, but a 750ti in a x8 slot should perform the same as it would in a x16 slot.
