My power supply is currently making a horrible grinding noise which starts when my computer turns on. This noise will fade usually about an hour or so after it has been powered on however this noise will come back if my tower is knocked slightly. I maintain my pc well and clean all the dust filters regularly so I highly doubt it is dust build up. Do you think that a cable is potentially getting caught in the fan or the fan is breaking, or some other reason. Please if you have any idea suggest how I could resolve this problem.

Thanks allot

Try reseating the fan. Poke it around the hub.

How old and what PSU is it? In my experience grinding normally comes from a wire hitting the fan or just a bad fan itself.

Even if you clean your PC regularly, there could still be dust in the PSU itself. I would suggest taking it out of your case entirely and blow it out really well with canned air or possibly an air compressor if you have one (so long as it's not insanely powerful).

Try reseating the fan. Poke it around the hub.

If you do decide to try reseating the fan, read up on safety precautions when dealing with the internals of a PSU. Touching the wrong thing in the wrong way can be dangerous.

It is a 650 Watt EZcool, and it is about 2 years old now.

Thanks

Sadly, This is a known power supply to fail & cause other problems.
