Hello guys,

I recently bought a GTX 1070, after upgrading from the 650 TI boost. It hasn't arrived yet although I was wondering will the card come with all the connection wires I need and will I already have the wires connected to the 650 if it doesn't come with them?

Thanks,

Oli

How do I check this?

Either look at the connections on the PSU, Or check the details of your PSU online if you know make and model.

is the PCIe power connector the one that comes from mains electricity? That pin you mean or the one connecting the GPU to the PSU? Sorry I'm terrible at this, but that's why I'm using the forum.

What's that supposed to mean...

What you want is a cable that comes out of your PSU and looks like this:

Alternatively, just give us your PSU model and we can tell you.

Cable will come from your PSU inside your PC. :)

It is the EVGA SC 1070, and I was told I wouldn't need a new PSU (not a large problem if I have to anyway because I can swap out my brother's 550W although I was told I don't need more power?)

Oh, don't worry then. You have all you need already.

Your current PSU will do. No need to swap.

Alright great, and what other connections are required from the GPU? Anything new as from what I could see the PSU was the only thing connected (although surely I missed something to motherboard or something?)

Yea you will be fine, you have a corsair VS450 and that has 2x 6+2pin connector.

But please don't go SLI. You have the connectors for it but just whatever you do don't go SLI later, the VS450 can't handle that, at all.

As long as you stick to a single 1070 you will be fine.

You put the GPU on the mobo and 6+2 pin cable on the GPU. That's it.

Oh, and your HDMI / Display port on the GPU as well, but that's a given.

Thanks a lot - I think I'm set apart from finding space in the PC - I'll have to find a way of making it fit as its quite a bit larger but at least I know I have what I need, great ;)

The GPU also takes his power from the pci-e slot it's in.

if you look closely to the slot you will see a small connector and a big one next to it.

Small one only gives power, the big one only gives data.

That's the only other connection you need but because you already have a gpu and every motherboard in the last 10 years have a pci-e connector, you will be fine.

Just unplug the psu wire, take out the screws on the bracket, take it out (don't forget it's probably locked in by a clip, check motherboard manual for help).

And after that do the process in reverse with the new gpu, that's it. Replacing a gpu is probably the easiest thing to do.

Nice, I've changed to an SSD before but was baffled by the thought of the GPU. Looks a lot easier now though, thanks a lot.
