TV Audio To Computer

azurite2

I want to run my tv's audio into my computer, (NOT the computers audio and video through the TV). I tried these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESM3GK2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but after I got them realized that those work with audio in not out according to the ports on the back of my TV. So my question is what can I do?

the only thing on your tv that outputs audio is the optical port

and optical on computer is only output

so you need an optical to 3.5mm stereo converter that you can plug into your line-in plug on your PC

do you want the sound card to connect to the computer with USB, PCI, or PCIE. Figure that out and i'll find something for you.

Short answer is you need to buy a cheep sound card with a SPDIF input.

If your pc part picker is correct, you have to go with a PCIe version. The Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO doesnt have a PCI slot.

just search for a sound card with a Optical SPDIF input.

That one won't work I don't have a MIO slot on my motherboard. Well I dont really know what to do.

I dont know whats going on with that MIO stuff of asus. Googling "Asus MIO" and "MIO Compatible Motherboard" only brings up that card . The connector looks just like PCI-e 1x tho

from what i gather, ASUS is to cheep to add audio to there server boards, and wanted to punish those who wanted audio(the only explanation i can come up with). By making them buy an add-in card, while forcing them to use their MIO interface, and in turn buy their card.

while physically identical to PCIE, ether by software limitations or electrically re-arranging (didnt look in to how it was different)

Well I think I'm just gonna order the sound blaster z, it looks the best, and will hopefully sound good. Plus some of my other options had two or three conversions in the middle. Thank you so much for all the help you gave me tonight! :D
