Hey guys. So I was overclocking my GPU and CPU to see how far it can overclock. So I first tried really high. Like core 300 and memory 600 with my msi gtx 970 4GB. Then my system crashed (as I thought..).

So when my system crashes right after overclocking that far, can it damage any components?

Thanks.

if youre going to recklessly overclock like that then its possible
if the hardware isnt overheating then with enough crashes you might end up corrupting your OS

google what other people have been able to achieve with the same GPU before you start messing with sliders in software overclocking

It shouldn't do. I've done that many times with my 290 :P At worst you'd have to use the iGPU to uninstall and reinstall drivers but that's it.

I am just checking what the limits of the overclocking is on my GPU and CPU. But when I overclock it so much that it crashes, will that damage my hardware?

when i oc my gpu i never touch the voltage, most cards go pretty far without adding voltage.

most of the times with gpu overclocking your screen's' go black and the overclock will reset or worst case you get a system lockup and you need to reboot the pc and lower the previous speeds.

adding to MUCH voltage is never good, i personally never go above 1.3V for cpu's (intel) 24/7 use.

crashing bad for your hardware? maby in the long run i don't know, i do some decent amount of overclocking and i do crash allot because the cpu or gpu is not stable.

it's pretty hard to screw up unless your really doing extreme high voltages imo, also make sure you have good cooling :)

Limits are when it crashes -5 to 10MHz. The answer to the second question is there: \/\/\/
