Hello. Just as the title says i'm having problems booting up an old system. I had an old stock system that I stopped using a few months ago due to using the hard drive for a new system. I just received a new hard drive that I bought for that old system and once I installed it I powered the pc on but it doesn't want to boot from the hard drive. I've gone into the BIOS and made sure that the hard drive is first in the boot order menu and I even went into the boot menu to manually select which device I want the pc to boot up from but still nothing. I have tried switching and using different SATA cables and I have tried using all the different SATA ports on my motherboard and no success. At first I thought maybe it was a bad drive but I ran it through the SMART test as well as the DPS test in the BIOS and it passed both so it should be a functioning hard drive but I keep getting the No boot filename received and no boot device detected or boot device has failed error message. This has gotten really frustrating and any help is greatly appreciated.

Hard drives do not come with Operating Systems. Just like optical media and USB drives, hard drives come clean with nothing on them. You will need to find the installation media for whatever operating system you've used on your old system plus the license key and reinstall Windows.
