Help with pre-built case.

Go to solution Solved by glitchmaster0001,

for the IO shield you just have to hit it really hard with the butt of the screwdriver. it will come out plus you dont need the old one so no need to worry about breaking it

My first PC build. My brother's old laptop can't play modern games at more than around 5 fps. I decided to go with an AMD Kaveri build. PC part picker list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/FgnmGf

Anything that i didn't put on the list means I have it at home or it comes with another component. I have already purchased the parts but when I took all the parts out of a old prebuilt PC I couldn't take the IO shield out.

The prebuilt PC is an HP Pavilion a6230n. I have tried hitting the IO shield from the outside with the back of a screwdriver. If you have any additional tips please tell me.

As with anything, the IO shield isn't just secured with magic and good will. They've usually got metal compression tabs, or rely on the plate flexing in order to unhook it from the case. In some cases, you may need to manually pry back these tabs or hooks in order to free the io shield. When you go to assemble it, put the IO shield in first, and bend the tabs back.

follow my sleeper PC build log because you will have to modify the front panel connector for it to work

I did see tiny metal tabs on the IO shield.

I see these thick white cables that look ancient. Are they proprietary? If so what do I need to do?

those are the USB 2.0 headers and firewire. on my build i cut out the firewire cables as they are now obsolete. i kept the USB cables and the sound cables
