Okay so I helped a few friends building their pc's already. This means that when i get my parts I'll hopefully be all set and good to go. Getting all the parts has proven to be somewhat of a pain though. So far this is what im thinking of:

RAM:
Corsair 16 GB DDR4-3000 Quad-Kit

Case:
NZXT H440

Motherboard:
MSI Z170A GAMING M3, socket 1151

Graphics card:
MSI: GTX 1080 Gaming X

Processor:
Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake

I know the RAM and processor are compatible with the motherboard, but not sure on the new gaming x. I've got a few good harddisks lying around so that won't be a problem.

So is this compatible, any other tips on things i should do differently and maybe what power supply i should get.

Thanks a lot in advance guys.

Get a EVGA 850 g2 supernova. Nice power supply and nice wattage. Also very quiet and very efficient.

Yes, the GPU will definitely be compatible.

For the PSU I would recommend the PSU that Vengeance_K1ng referred to you.

Okay thanks guys, on a sidenote is there any reason to get a heatsink for my CPU if I'm not planning on overclocking. And would there be a reason to buy fans different from the stock ones?

Without a cooler, your CPU would die very fast and would bottleneck and shut off.

The new skylake k series does not come with stock cooler. Why you choose a k series when you dont want to overclock then? The stock cooler was said to be louder but enough for non overclock CPU so ur choice. If you dont wanna overclock and want silence then Coolermast hyper 212 evo is a basic choice.

Anyway, for compatibility, use pcpartpicker.com to put everything together it will check for you.

what game do you play? do you do video editing or stream? if not i5 is good enough.

Get a better motherboard like the Asus Z170-A or the Gigabyte G1-Z170X-GAMING 5 or G1-Z170X-GAMING 6 motherboard. Drop the i7 and replace it with an i5 6600K. Get a cooler like the Corsair H100i v.2.

His motherboard is completely fine. MSI makes great products

If you aren't overclocking then go for a regular 6700, and h170 board, you could save some money to put toward a ssd, or better case, psu, sli gtx 1080.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

I'll look into it, thanks for the advice, but from what you may gather from the build monney ins't really an issue atm.
