I have a D5 pump with just the regular top, and there is a low pitched whine that comes from it, even at the lowest setting that increases in pitch and loudness as I turn the pump to higher speeds. It's the vario version. Is there something wrong with the pump or is this normal? People say that their D5s are completely silent. It is buffered from the case with some folded up paper under it.

I wouldn't call it absolutely dead silent you can still hear it if you put your ear close to it but as for the whine since it happens at all speeds sounds like potentially coil whine from the pump which is not normally common. Try to see if you can contact the manufacture to see what they say.

Well I have ekwb D5 pump and for me it seems dead silent.

Sure if I turn off all fans in case and put my ear next to it, I can hear it humming a bit. But when I move 1m away from it, I can't hear it, even with all fans turned off and side panel of the case also off.

For me that's dead silent :P

Running it at around 40-60% speed.
