I'm choosing 970 so that if i upgrade my monitor there's no need to buy a new gpu. And about RX 480, i'm sticking with 970 because my friend will sell it to me with low price.

But can it run 970? Also 970 because later i might upgrade my monitor

Yes, it will be fine with a 970. A 2500 is not a bottleneck for GTX 9** series GPUs.

So i've been planning to buy a new gfx, it'll be 960/970 (not 10 series cause they priced way higher in my place). i'm aiming to go with Asus 970 Strix. My current psu is Gigabyte GE-EIS40A-C2 ( http://www.hardwareinsights.com/wp/gigabyte-powerock-400w-power-supply-review/ ) and only had 1x6+2 pin pci-e cable. I'm concerned whether my psu can handle 970 because the rest of 970 use 2x6 pin or above and the asus strix one only use 1x8 pin. If my psu can't handle 970 strix, i migt go with 960 strix. I might questioning a dumb question, but hey what's better than being sure in the first time.

My current setup :

  • Processor : Intel I5 2500 non-K
  • Motherboard : MSI H61M-E33 (B3)
  • Memory : 2 4 gigs (booth single channel)
  • Monitor : cheap 768p BenQ
  • PSU : Gigabyte GE-EIS 40A-C2

TL;DR : 400 watt psu only have 1x6+8 cable, 970 require 8 pin (other 970 require more than 2x6 pin)

The point of me asking this : Just to make sure a 400 watt psu can run 970

Sorry if my english is bad. Thanks for taking your time reading this

Side question :

  • 970 too overkill for 768p?
  • Will my cpu bottleneck 960/970?
  • Should i upgrade my psu?

the gtx 970's overkill for 768p, your cpu shouldn't bottleneck and you should upgrade your psu, preferably to a cx650m/hcg620-m at $50 after rebates. also, wait for the Rx 480/470 for $200/150 instead, they'll be much better for your budget when they're released in a week.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

A 970 for 768P is wildly overkill. A GTX 950 is already way more than enough.

Your CPU will not bottleneck either.

You should not upgrade your PSU. The Gigabyte one you chose is more than fine.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
